Included in a BBC documentary in 2002 at the end of a standard black and white concert clip was the following 1.1 seconds of color footage.

Blink whilst watching the show and you'd miss it, but here are all the frames from it going left to right, top to bottom and also included at the bottom is a link to watch the footage which includes a slowed down version so you can see it better.

Steve,

Not 100% sure without double checking but isn't this from the concert that Elvis talks about performing on the Wink Martindale show where he announces his ring will be given as a door prize.

If this is the same footage it also shows the ring being presented on stage and can be found in great quality on the George Klein video Elvis Memories.

Mark, I've never seen that footage yet at all, unless it's the one where they overdubed another performance of Baby Lets Play House.

I tried to pick up some clues but being so short it was hard, but look at the guy who gets up in the left hand side, it's like he's not really part of directly what's going on.
The lights in the background as well don't seem to be what would be expected if this was a concert or TV program. The light to the right of the screen looks like one of those huge spotlight things with the flaps around the side like off a movie set.

For this footage to appear on the program that it did I really thought that it was a mistake to include it. It was like they had editted the program badly and put it in when they shouldn't have.
Of all the times I've watched this program this was the first time I saw it! I must have blinked at that moment before. Laughing

Steve,

I can now confirm it is the footage I mentioned, more information follows.

Date : 4th July 1956

Venue : Russwood Park, Memphis Tennessee.

This is the concert which is talked about on Wink Martindales Dance Party where Elvis announces his 14 diamond initial ring is to be given as a door prize.

Footage runs for just under 1.30 of the actual concert and is overdubbed with Baby, Let's Play House.

The guy in the background on your clip is a photographer just getting in position before raising his camera.

Strange that such a short clip was included in the documentary you mention, particularly as this concert footage is very decent quality and in colour.

Thanks for that info.

I think it was a mistake on the edit to include it in the program that was broadcast and that's why it just appears there almost out of place.

Do you have a video PC file of the 1min 30 sec footage you can send me ?

Thanks Christian.

I've got it on one of my VHS tapes, but it's a pain trying to find it and then capture it. I don't have all 1min 30 secs either I don't think.

Hi Steve,

Unfortunately I don't have that footage in digital format, nor the equipment to convert it to digital format at this time.

Luckily, it sounds like Christian will be able to help you out. Would be neat if you manage to overdub a better matching audio to the footage.

What software are you using now Steve, you did a great job on the frame rate correction on the 1956 candid footage !

I'm still getting used to the software I told you about.
I didn't even realise that I had a speed adjuster on it until yesterday!

I was almost contemplating taking a bmp or jpg of each frame and cutting the length back on each one and then putting them altogether to create a faster speed. What ended up taking 10 seconds could've taken days if I'd done it that way.

One great thing about frame by frame snapshots is that you get the chance to take out the spots and scatches and clean the film up. The movie software does allow for this, but it tends to globally change the whole film and can remove details out of it.
